Guess the Pair

Rating :9/10

Effect : Magician deals out ten pairs of cards face down. The magician turns away and asks the spectator to choose a pair and look at the the two cards. The spectator then mixes the pairs around. The magician gathers the cards out then deals out 4 rows of 5 cards. By a process of elimination the magician is able to find the spectator cards.

Secret : This is a very clever card trick and will fool everyone. The secret requires you to remember a sentence : DAVID LOVEL IN YON ABBEY

Step 1 : Ask the spectator to shuffle cards, once shuffled ask the spectator to deal of 20 cards from the top of the deck.

Step 2 : Move the rest of the cards to one side, Take the 20 cards and deal out 10 pairs of cards face down

Step 3 : Face away from the spectator and ask the spectator to select a pair of cards, remember the two cards then move the pairs around. Don't mix the pairs up with eachother just move them around the table. Once the spectator has done turn around again to face them.

Step 4: Gather up the pairs cards and place them on top of eachother, it doesn't matter which order they are in.

Step 5 : Here's the tricky bit remember that sentence : DAVID LOVEL IN YON ABBEY .....well you will have to remember this. Try to remember it in this position.

D A V I D

L O V E L

I N Y O N

A B B E Y

Step 6 : Now you have to deal the cars out FACE UP one at a time. Each pair will be assigned to a certain letter of the sentence. Deal out the first card at the top left corner which is "D" the other D is at the top right corner so place a card there.

So you have know dealt out the first pair

You have to work you way across from left to right so the next letter to remember is A, so place a card next to the other one in the top left corner. The location of the other A is at the bottom left corner so place a card there.

You will then have to do the two V's next the two I's then the two L's then the two O's then the two E's then the two N and the two Y's and finally the two B's.

Once you have done that you should have 4 rows of 5 cards all face up.

Step 7: You then ask the spectator which cards are the spectator card in, the rows going horizontal

Step 8 : For example if the spectator says the top two rows then you know that the only pair in the top row is the two V's so you would first remove the other rows.

Next gently take away the other cards randomly don't make it obvious. Keep asking the spectator if they can still see there cards. Take the cards away until your left with the two V's cards which would be the spectators cards,

If the spectator says top row then it's the two D's ......top two rows it's the two V's .....bottom row it's the two B's ......3rd row is the two N's......2nd and 3rd row is the two O's 2nd and 4th row.........is the the two E's...and so on.
